From June 1-8 on its Facebook, Tokyo Otaku Mode asked, “What Japanese
anime are you looking forward to for the summer season?” Responses to
this Ota-Q survey came from 1,461 people all over the world. So, what
summer anime are otaku worldwide looking forward to? Let’s first take a
look at the Overall Ranking!
Wow!! No. 1 is Sword Art Online II! With just a
look at the graph, it’s easy to see that this was a landslide victory. At No. 2, with overwhelming support from females of course, is Free! Eternal Summer, and at No. 3 from the Psycho-Pass series, a new season to which will be broadcast this fall, is Psycho-Pass Re-Edited Version. The results speak to the fact that many fans are waiting anxiously for these sequels.
Now by gender
Regardless of gender, SAO II is
still in first! However, shift your attention to No. 2 and you’ll notice
a striking difference among these rankings. According to males, the No.
2 most anticipated summer anime is Psycho-Pass Re-Edited Version. However, with a difference of 462 votes, there is a huge gap between this and the No. 1 ranked anime, SAO II. On the other hand, ranking at No. 2 on the female side is Free! Eternal Summer
with a difference of only seven votes between it and the No. 1 ranked
anime. There is also a low vote difference between it and the No. 3
ranked anime, Black Butler: Book of Circus.
Another interesting result is the ranking position of Sailor Moon Crystal
in the rankings by age and area. The anime ranked high at No. 2 among
those in their 30s, but ranked 13th among teens and 5th among those in
their 20s. By also looking at the ranking by area, it can be seen that
while the anime acquired many votes from those in North America and
Europe, it ranked 18th in Asia, which shows just how much interest in
the anime differs between areas.
Will
the highest ranking anime be able to answer the expectations of fans
all over the world?
